Lucille Rivera
Colorado
When community calls, Lucille answers. After retiring as the administrator of one of Denver’s safety net clinics, Lucille began her encore heading up human resources for six years for Tepeyac Community Health Center as it scaled up operations. When Lucille decided to retire, the community once again called on her: to head up the Chicano Humanities and Arts Council, as it faced some unique challenges in its history. She led efforts to raise funding, including a crowdfunding campaign. As gentrification threatened CHAC’s historic location in a once Latino neighborhood, she worked with other board members to find temporary gallery space and a new permanent location.
