Can you tell what’s real anymore?

AI can now create remarkably convincing images, voices, and videos—in mere seconds. That can be enormously useful, but it can also be used to deceive us.

So how do we become smarter and safer consumers of AI?

The Encore Network is excited to welcome Dia Ghosh, Founder of Joint Family, a Cambridge-based social initiative offering interactive, educational programs that help people understand how AI is changing daily life, how to engage with it responsibly, and how to protect themselves and others from its risks.

Through hands-on activities and small-group discussions, we’ll experiment with AI, comparing AI-generated images, voices, and videos and discovering firsthand how difficult it is becoming to distinguish what’s real from what’s artificial.

We’ll also explore emerging trends in AI and deepfakes, examine real-world cases involving scams and misinformation, and talk about practical strategies for navigating an increasingly AI-generated world.

During the session, you’ll:

  • Get a plain-English introduction to what AI is, the variety of ways it is being used, and both its opportunities and risks
  • Investigate real-world scams, deepfakes, misinformation, and the challenge of distinguishing real from fake
  • Examine AI dilemmas in the workplace, education, healthcare, mental health, copyright ownership, and the environment
  • Learn practical strategies for protecting yourself, your family, and your community
  • Leave with take-home resources, including digital safety worksheets and best-practice guides

AI is here to stay. We don’t have to become AI experts. But we do need to become informed, thoughtful, and savvy users of it.

Join us for a fascinating, practical, and eye-opening learning experience, get your questions answered—and leave better prepared to navigate what comes next.
