Advocacy Affinity Group
August 25 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT

Ageism is embedded in our culture and widely understood as a barrier to opportunity, contribution, and quality of life for people over 50. The Encore Network helps people shift perceptions and navigate the barriers created by ageism, but what about changing the system itself? We will define an advocacy agenda and develop strategies for changing policies and practices that drive or enable ageist attitudes, behaviors, and decisions. Together, we can build broader support for the changes we want to see.
The Advocacy Affinity Group meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. ET.
August 25 Meeting Agenda: At this meeting, the Advocacy Affinity Group will discuss how The Encore Network decides its position on selected issues and how we convey those decisions to our members, various interest groups and leaders, and the general public. We’ll prepare a recommendation to the Leadership Council using the POWADA (Protect Older Workers Against Discrimination Act) and POJA (Protect Older Job Applicants Act) bills, currently pending in the US Senate. We want The Encore Network to act thoughtfully but also quickly when issues arise.
If you have questions about the group, contact Janine Vanderburg or Doug Dickson.
