Changing the Systems & Unlock the Value of Experience

Longer lives are changing how we work, contribute, and participate in our communities—but many of our institutions, policies, and practices haven’t kept pace. Policymakers, advocates, organizational leaders, and other changemakers can help remove the barriers that limit opportunity. Explore research, policy ideas, advocacy tools, campaigns, and practical resources for turning the value of experience into meaningful change.

Reframing Aging and Rethinking Ageism  A program delivered by Janine Vanderburg based on the research of the Reframing Institute and the initiatives of Changing the Narrative. Excellent ideas and resources to support activism and advocacy.

Toolkits

Candidate Awareness Toolkit   Little attention is given to issues affecting older adults by public officials or candidates for public office. Yet these issues have important implications for economic growth, workforce policy, and the financial security of older people. The Advocacy Affinity Group collaborated with Encore Roadmap to design this Toolkit to help members identify and promote policy positions.

Ageism Awareness Toolkit   These resources were initially developed by the Advocacy Affinity Group to focus on Ageism Awareness Day, sponsored each October by the American Society on Aging. They target issues relevant to the mission of The Encore Network. We adapted these communications for use in promoting ageism awareness in a variety of other contexts.

Changing the Narrative Intergenerational Conversations These resources were developed by Changing the Narrative to focus on facilitating conversations, building trust and inspiring action.

The Encore Network has been an invaluable partner in establishing Indy Encore. Along with extensive resources and engaging presentations, I discovered a vibrant community of supportive social entrepreneurs and advocates.
